Fun Things To Do in Denver this Weekend
There’s always something to do in Denver, no matter what time of year it is! As a former resident, I’ve had the pleasure of visiting most of these places many times. Denver has some of the most beautiful scenery and amazing experiences. Here are some ideas for fun things to do in Denver this weekend.
💎 Want to see more than one place while you’re in Denver (including several on this list?)
💰 We recommend the Denver CityPASS to save money and see more on your visit!
1. Visit Denver’s Union Station
Union Station is an awesome train station in the heart of downtown, the lower downtown (LoDo) area, to be specific. It can be likened to a much smaller version of what Grand Central Station is in NYC. Walking into the station, you have beautiful modern architecture and are usually met with people packing the place full.
There’s an assortment of people– it’s a local hub where some people are just hanging out but also a center for transportation where people are waiting to catch a train. This is a fantastic place for people watching as one of the many fun things to in Denver this weekend – you’re welcome!
There are several places to eat or drink inside and around the station that are also worth noting. Terminal Bar, Snooze (breakfast), Pigtrain Coffee Co., Milkbox Icecreamery, the Cooper Lounge, and so many others!
Address: 1701 Wynkoop St. Denver, CO 80202
2. Watch the Rockies at Coor’s Field
Visiting during baseball season? I recommend heading to a Rockies Game! You’ll catch a great game, great crowd, a cool stadium, and even an incredible sunset or a mountain view. You can get pretty cheap seats, or you can choose the rooftop ticket option for no seats, but you’ll have access to the rooftop area and all of the vendors up there. Even if you choose to purchase seats, you’ll still have access to the rooftop area. I recommend heading up there to check it out.
If it’s not baseball season, you can still take a tour of Coor’s Field, but be sure to purchase tickets in advance as there’s a limited amount offered per day. These tours will typically last anywhere from 70-80 minutes.
Address: 2001 Blake St Denver, CO 80205
3. Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater
This spot is actually in a town called Morrison that’s on the outskirts of Denver, but it’s a pretty fast drive and offers an unforgettable experience. Red Rocks is a world-renowned music venue, and you’ll be amazed at the natural red rock amphitheater as well as the beautiful city and nature views it offers.
Bring workout gear, or at least good walking shoes, as the amphitheater itself boasts about 380 steps to the top concession area, and it sits at 6,000 feet above sea level. It can be a tough workout, so plan on bringing lots of water and taking stops along the way if you feel out of breath.
There are also several trails that branch through here so be sure to check those out if you’re looking for more of the hiking experience.
Address: 18300 West Alameda Parkway Morrison, CO 80465
4. Larimer Square
Larimer Square is an urban shopping and dining district and is actually the historic spot where Denver was founded. The area is very walkable, as it spans the distance of a block on Larimer Street. The district has several restaurants and bars, a few most notable: Green Russell, Bistro Vendome, Cru (Wine Bar), Osteria Marco, and Ocean Prime.
The area is exceptionally pretty at night when the canopy of lights are lit up over the street. It’s definitely a sight worth seeing if you’re in the area and looking for a great place to walk around, grab some dinner or a drink.
Address: 1430 Larimer St. Denver, CO 80202
5. Walk Along the 16th Street Mall
Walk along the 16th Street Mall, a mile-long pedestrian thoroughfare built in 1982 in Denver. It boasts several stores, cafes, office buildings, and restaurants along the granite street. It’s a great way to walk from one side of downtown to the other (bring walking shoes) or, if you’re not up for all of the walking, you can take the free mall-ride shuttle that runs up and down the street.
Address: 1001 16th St Denver, CO 80265
6. Denver Art Museum
Denver Art Museum is one of the largest museums between Chicago and the West Coast. It offers a collection of over 70,000 works of art. Not only does it have an awesome exterior originally designed by Italian architect Gio Ponti and an additional structure designed by Daniel Libeskind, it boasts both modern and contemporary art collections, some permanent and some visiting. It has both well-known names as well as emerging artists and is a museum dedicated to helping visitors explore art and their creativity.

7. Visit the Beautiful Denver Botanic Gardens
The Botanic Gardens in Denver are one of the largest botanic gardens in the United States, stretching out over 24 acres. It offers several beautiful garden displays, and it also hosts events throughout the year. There are Gardens inspired by the West, gardens internationally inspired (Japan, China, South Africa), colorful Ornamental Gardens, Shady Gardens, as well as Water Gardens.
You’ll truly see a wide variety of plants from all over the world while you’re here, and it is absolutely beautiful. They even offer several free days for the Gardens throughout the year listed on their website.
Address: 1007 York Street Denver, CO 80206
8. Head to Denver’s City Park
Want to see some great views of both the city skyline as well as the mountains in the background? You’ll find it on the Southeast side of City Park. This is Denver’s main regional park that has your typical park features like tennis courts, football and soccer fields, lakes, and playgrounds. It also offers an extensive amount of walking/running paths as well as the Denver Zoo and the Museum of Nature and Science.
The Museum of Nature and Science sits on the Southeast side of the park and offers a great visit for both the exhibits as well as the views that the atrium offers in the back of the building of the city and mountains. The atrium offers one of the best views of Denver’s skyline in the city.
Address: 2001 Colorado Blvd Denver, CO 80205
9. Explore Colorado’s State Capital
This Golden-Domed building is a very prominent part of the Denver Skyline, and you’ll find it on the eastern side of Civic Center Park. Free tours are offered Monday through Friday of the building as it serves as a museum for the history of Colorado.
One of the coolest features of the building is that it sits at exactly 1 mile above sea level. The 15th step offers an inscription stating that at this spot, you are “One Mile Above Sea Level.” However, due to inaccurate measurements used in the past, the ‘true’ location where you are a mile above sea level is actually the 13th step. An official marker was placed on the 13th step in 2003 by the Governor at the time.
Address: 200 E Colfax Ave Denver, CO 80203
10. Spot the Blue Bear at the Denver Convention Center
Have you ever seen pictures of the three-story, 40-foot big, blue bear in Denver and wanted to know where it was? If so, check out the front of the Convention Center downtown, and you’ll find him peeking into the large floor-to-ceiling windows of the center. You should definitely snap a picture of him.
